FAQ

Circulation: What’s Your Current Subscription Policy?

You may have heard that our subscription policy has changed in recent years. In order to be a subscriber to the print version of the magazine, a member must give at least $100 each fiscal year to the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation or have achieved a lifetime giving level of at least $1,000. In order to comply with postal regulations, our mailing list must be comprised of subscribers. Even though we may have a good mailing address for a brother on our database, and simply because he is a member, the postmaster does not automatically accept his name as a subscriber.

Circulation: Why do I have to donate to receive the magazine?

Two main reasons. One, with the ever-rising costs of paper, ink and postage, we simply cannot afford to send a copy to every member on our database. Two, we must follow the postal regulations mentioned above that require financial documentation on members who are to be accepted as valid subscribers.

Circulation: I used to receive the magazine, but don’t anymore. Why?

We would love nothing more than to be able to send every issue to every member – believe us. But since that’s no longer possible, we went with the next-best option. You’re reading it now.

Circulation: How do I update my address?

The easiest way is to visit the members-only section of our main webpage, www.sae.net, and log in to your personal account. If that’s not working, you can always e-mail editor@sae.net.

Submission: What are the guidelines for submission?

Submitted news briefs should be 75-100 words long and contain information about chapter events, community-service efforts, gatherings and other notable happenings. Other news items are accepted but will be judged on their level of interest to the entire brotherhood. Electronic submissions are given highest priority and should be sent to editor@sae.net. Digital photos should be at least 300 dpi in resolution or on a digital camera’s highest-quality setting. Hard copies can be sent to The Editor, 1856 Sheridan Road, Evanston, Illinois 60201. High-quality, 4” x 6” or larger photos are preferred. Photos should not contain alcohol or other unsuitable content, and not all photos will be printed. Hard-copy photos will not be returned, but will be placed in chapter scrapbooks at the Levere Memorial Temple. Photos that are not submitted in high resolution will not be published.

Longer pieces can be discussed with the editor.

Submission: What are the deadlines for submission?

Each submission to the magazine is put in the queue for the next available issue, so there are no hard deadlines. As an event is completed, send a writeup and photos along so we can print it.

Submission: Why isn’t my chapter in Alumni/Chapter News Briefs?

We publish nearly every scrap of Sigma Alpha Epsilon news we receive. If your chapter isn’t represented, make sure the Eminent Correspondent is doing his job and is sending submissions to editor@sae.net. And if you’re an alumnus who’s busy with his social and professional life, let us know what you’re up to as well, especially if it’s Fraternity-related.
