The Midwest

Deep snapper SAM MEGINNIS was a member of the 10-4 Nebraska Holiday Bowl team. Co-captain/ linebacker CLARK ROBERTS, who was fifth in tackles for Westminster with 48, led a group of other talented players. Seeing starting duty on the offensive line were tackle DAVID SCHATZ and guard MATT BARKER. Good offensive backups included running back SAM KRUSE, who appeared in nine contests, and tackle CALEB KNOTT, who was in eight games. Other contributors at Westminster included lineman DERRICK JENSEN (17 tackles), lineman KEVIN GRISSOM and linebacker JOSH BROMBERG.

Westgate

The West Coast

UCLA quarterback RICHARD BREHAUT started for the second year. He hit 119 of 212 for 1,296 yards, six TDs and ran the ball 57 times for 118 yards, four scores. Other teammates were running back JUSTIN FAREED, tight end ANDREW YELICH and defensive back DYLAN PRICE. GREG CARUSO was a defensive back on the Southern California squad, and other squadmen on the Cal-Berkeley team included deep snapper CLARK PORTER, tight end GARY GRAFFORT and quarterback RYAN WERTENBERGER. Running back JOHN STANLEY saw action in two contests for the Chapman team. The 7-3 Willamette team had a number of other fine ΣAE players, led by All-NWC honorable-mention tight end WILL POHL, who started every game, and linebacker REED WARNER, who led with three fumble recoveries, ranked fifth with 41 stops and ran an interception 12 yards for a TD versus Menlo. Other valuable players incluced linebacker JORDAN WEIL (33 tackles), offensive lineman BEN LYONS, linebacker CULLEN CARROLL (24 tackles), back ALEX HOLLAND and linemen SCOTT MILLER and ANDY ZWENG.

Brothers in the NFL

After returning to the NFL as head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, PETE CARROLL (Pacific ’73) took the team to the NFC title (despite just a 7-9 record) and a victory in the playoffs. Kicker MATT PRATER (Central Florida ’06) played in 12 contests for the Denver Broncos and scored 76 points on 16 of 18 field goal attempts and 28 of 29 extra point attempts. His longest FG was 59 yards versus the New York Jets. Offensive guard KYLE COOK (Michigan State ’07) started every game once again for the Cincinnati Bengals. Quarterback DREW STANTON (Michigan State ’07) started three contests for the Detroit Lions, including his best career game against Tampa Bay, hitting 23 of 37 for 252 yards. His season numbers were 69 completions in 119 attempts for 780 yards and four TDs. CRAIG STEVENS (UC-Berkeley ’08) started 13 games at tight end for the Tennessee Titans and caught 11 passes for 122 yards and two TDs. Offensive tackle MIKE TEPPER (UC-Berkeley ’09) is on the Indianapolis Colts roster after playing with Sacramento of the United Football League last season and offensive guard BRIAN DE LA PUENTE (UC- 08) is on the 2011 New Orleans Saints roster after being on the practice squads of two clubs last season.
