Province Xi
At the beginning of November, Kentucky Kappa at Centre College hosted the Province Xi Convention, and the six chapters from the province elected a complete new Province Council. They include Province Archon Don Bartholomew (Eastern Kentucky ’80), Province Deputy Archon Jeff Johnson (Centre ’95), Treasurer Peter Nesmith (Kentucky ’98), Recorder Jonathon Cummins (Kentucky ’04) and Alumni Adviser Stephan Kalayil (Louisville ’07).

New York Epsilon was honored by the Mayor of Troy as well as the entire city council for the work it completed on Earth Day this past spring. Brothers went to the local cemetery to clear out brush, clean up shrubbery, re-set knocked-down gravestones and collect garbage, while other brothers went to a nearby park to complete a similar cleanup. The men received their award in person at an early September council meeting.
San Diego State
During the previous school year, California Theta initiated 45 new members, bringing the chapter’s total to 140 active men, the largest fraternity on campus. At the end of the academic year, three of the 14 seats on the Interfraternity Council were held by brothers, and a representative from California Theta sat on the Associated Students Council as vice president of university affairs. The men also improved their average GPA by 0.18, making them the third-highest fraternity average on campus.
South Carolina-Columbia
South Carolina Delta chapter held its formal in mid-April in Savannah, Georgia. The men and their dates took a dinner cruise on the “Queen of Georgia” on Friday night. In other news, Eminent Archon Brad Starbuck presented a check for nearly $8,000, which brothers raised during the Kiawah Island annual marathon, to a family that battles cystic fibrosis. Members obtain pledges from businessmen and individuals for the event. Furthermore, brothers have started a mentoring program for school children at Saxe Gotha Elementary School in Lexington. Participants in the program are paired up with one of the students, mostly young boys who need an adult role model. Mentoring sessions often include helping students with academics, eating lunch and going to recess with them.
Southern Methodist
Members of Texas Delta raised more than $42,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation by shaving their heads. Each of the 24 participants was responsible for soliciting donations from family, friends and businesses and, in a show of solidarity with children who lose their hair from chemotherapy, had their heads shaved to complete the challenge. The Foundation, which began in 2000, has become one of the largest fundraising events in the nation for childhood cancer research. Four days prior to the St. Baldrick’s event, the chapter held its annual Chili Cook-Off, and the total raised for both events topped $50,000.
Southern Mississippi
The Mississippi Sigma chapter recently launched a website, located at www.mssigma.net. With an improved interface, active and alumni members can now log in to connect with other brothers. The chapter has also started a project to sell Sigma Alpha Epsilon car tags for the state of Mississippi. For more information on the $35 new tag, contact Russ Cullinane at r-cullinane@comcast.net.

Members of the Georgia Omega colony assisted their university with its 60th anniversary, including parking cars for the president’s dinner and painting the rock on campus, which has been painted with Greek letters for more than 20 years by the Greek community. The members painted a scheme that celebrated the school’s milestone and the president’s 10th anniversary. They took a picture with the rock and presented it to her.
Villanova
In April, Pennsylvania Eta-Gamma held a golf outing to benefit Children’s Miracle Network after three years of doing a 5K charity run for the same organization. Despite the new event, the brothers successfully raised $40,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, bringing the total amount donated in the benefit’s four-year run to more than $100,000. The brothers’ efforts were rewarded during the summer at the John O. Moseley Leadership School, where Pennsylvania Eta-Gamma received the Joseph C. Mancini Service and Philanthropy Award. At the end of the previous academic year, Pennsylvania Eta-Gamma was named chapter of the year at Villanova for the 3rd consecutive year.
Wake Forest

North Carolina Chi initiated its Phi-Epsilon pledge class in late April. Chapter Adviser Ethan Kirby-Smith (’05) attended the event, and the new initiates now bring the chapter total to more than 60 men. Wake Forest also named the chapter the most outstanding fraternity on campus. Its former Eminent Archon, Brent Sarver (’08), was also named Greek Man of the Year.
